Event details
Join us for a tour of The Cosmic House by Charles Jencks on 12th April. Located in Holland Park the Cosmic House is UK’s first Postmodern house to be awarded Grade I listed status. This unique house is a manifesto of postmodernism and the brain child of the architect and design theorist Charles Jencks (1939 - 2019) who began designing it with his wife Maggie Keswick in late seventies when he also published his “The Language of Post-Modern Architecture”. The house encapsulates his ideas about architectural design such adhocism, the fun and joy of games, the art of not taking it all too seriously. The interiors are sprinkled with elements of the absurd and surreal. The house takes us back into the eighties and offers an insight into the mind of an architectural genius. The tour is organised by Leisure Enterprise and will commence on 12th April at 13:00 and will run until 14:30. It will then be followed up by a specialty lunch at the 6 Portland, where we will discuss all things architecture and design. Please note if invited to the event a ticket would need to be purchased for £110. Ticket price includes a three course lunch and a glass of wine.
