Event details
I vividly remember walking through the Stanford campus one evening when I saw this one-story glass building. Inside of it, there were about 30 people, many of them writing code on their laptops in different corners of the room. And then I saw one corner which was really interesting - there were about 7 people who were excitedly watching a small robocar navigate a course of obstacles which they had laid out on the ground. I remember I had never seen anything like that in London, or anywhere else before, and really wished there was such a passionate space of people who came together to build things, share their passion for technology, and ultimately become the next greatest engineers, founders and ultimately, people who do good in the world. This is when I imagined creating something equivalent in London, where i also felt there wasn’t as strong of a technology culture as compared to San Francisco, and thought this could be an amazing way to make London an even stronger, more exciting place to be an engineer. This is the hope of what this club will be - an amazing community of people who share their passion for technology and engineering, come together to seek advise, share problems, form lifelong friendships, or simply be in a space and work on their own projects, ultimately growing together and achieving more as a group. Additionally, I hope it will be a community in which we put aside personal benefit and ambitions and we help one another, realizing that when we do so we can do a lot more good in the world - and the reality is that the world has a lot of problems that can use some help and if some of us don’t solve them, no one might. The goal is to be meeting weekly. For the first meeting, we can find a cafe or a coworking space and just focus on introducing each other and our goals/ideas, after which everyone would be welcome to work on their goals in the space or chat to anyone else if they like - the idea is to do this weekly on Friday, Sat or Sunday and it can be a space to work on your interests, make friends and find accountability. In later meetings, I imagine there will also be an element of sharing progress and challenges, forming some teams and doing some fun activities like mini-hackathons/challenges. There could be many exciting things we can also do longer term as a community both for the benefit of the club and for doing something fun and meaningful together - organizing hackathons, inviting speakers, helping younger students access technology and etc. Looking forward to meeting you soon!
