James Hoffman and his team bought 16 tons of coffee (the same!), sent it to three different factories where the beans went through the decaffeination process, the resulting beans were sent to many roasters around the world, and each of them roasts the coffee as they see fit. As a result, there is a unique opportunity to try and learn how the same coffee changes its taste depending on the decaffeination and roasting process!
